Rohan Smith reveals Leeds Rhinos star’s bad facial fracture and Ash Handley prognosis ahead of Hull FC trip

Rohan Smith had just been able to welcome back a number of his Leeds Rhinos stars for the Super League fixture against St Helens last week.

That good selection headache lasted just 80 minutes as Zane Tetevano, Bodene Thompson and Harry Newman have picked up bans whilst Ash Handley was taken off the field with an ankle problem.

Now, Smith has revealed that Handley won’t be out too long – if at all.

“He has got a little ankle ligament strain that is not too bad. He hasn’t run yet but that won’t probably won’t happen until Thursday,” Smith said.

“He is in the mix still but we won’t know until later.”

The Leeds boss has revealed that Liam Tindall will return in the near future after suffering a fracture to his face.

“Liam will be back in the next couple of weeks. We are a little bit light on outside backs for sure.

“He had a facial fracture and he is going through the process not far away from returning.”

Leeds will go up against Hull FC on Saturday afternoon and the Black and Whites themselves have been decimated by injuries, not least to their backline with the likes of Jake Connor, Carlos Tuimavave, Luke Gale and Adam Swift out.

That being said, Smith is expecting a tough battle.

“I’m expecting them to run hard and compete physically.

“They will have different combinations with injuries to their spine but we need to focus on our own execution and application.

“We will spend more time on Hull as the week goes along.”
