Rohan Smith plays down the heated altercation between pair of Leeds Rhinos stars

Leeds Rhinos head coach Rohan Smith

Friday night was a frustrating one for Leeds Rhinos.

The West Yorkshire side lost for the second week in a row this time to Salford Red Devils as errors, execution and ill-discipline let them down.

The frustration was keenly felt by all at the club and led to an altercation between Tom Holroyd and Harry Newman in the tunnel after the game in which the two reportedly had to be separated.

Today though coach Rohan Smith has played it down.

Asked if he likes the passion from the pair, he said:

“There is a better way of doing it but there is no shortage of passion and desire among the group.

“Sometimes you have to temper it a little bit.”

Then asked if these incident are more common than people think, Smith added:

“I wouldn’t say they’re common but I wouldn’t say they’re uncommon. I’d say the majority of clubs have some kind of minor incidents that almost always are quickly resolved.”

Smith revealed what happened from the club’s perspective.

When asked, he said:

“They had a bit of a disagreement and that was left there and then and everyone has moved on.

“Those guys have known each other and been mates for a long period of time. It was one of those things that can happen in sport.”
