Rohan Smith opens up on losing Leeds Rhinos star to surgery despite lack of game time

Leeds Rhinos have lost three of their players to surgery.

Cameron Smith is well on the road to recovery after elbow surgery but the club is set to do without new signing Luke Hooley and star man Mikolaj Oledzki at the start of the season as they recover from surgery.

Speaking to the media this week, Rohan Smith explained why Hooley required surgery after an incident in training:

“Hooley went over on his ankle, it might have healed but would have taken a couple of months so the surgeon felt surgery was better.”

Meanwhile, he opened up on the situation around Oledzki explaining how even though he didn’t play for England in the Rugby League World Cup it helped lead to surgery:

“Mikolaj was an interesting one at the back end of the season, he got himself through the last couple of games. He was about 50/50 on whether he would need surgery and his desire to represent England saw him go down that path.

“He didn’t play much but he trained a lot and it got worse and he will likely miss the start of the season.”

Oledzki is likely to miss the first few games of the start of the season.

He certainly won’t feature in the Boxing Day friendly against Wakefield.
