Rohan Smith explains why the future is bright at Leeds Rhinos

Rohan Smith has already made a big impression at Leeds Rhinos.

He guided them away from relegation fears in 2022 with the club second bottom in April all the way to the Grand Final.

He has also dramatically lowered the average age of the squad bringing in plenty of young players for 2023 as well as giving young players at the club a chance to develop.

Players like Sam Walters, Morgan Gannon, Jack Sinfield and Jarrod O’Connor have developed brilliantly under the watchful eye of Smith.

Speaking on Leeds Rhinos’ YouTube channel, Smith said he believed the club has a strong future because of this youth:

“We integrated a lot of kids at the back end of last season and a few of those guys are now full-time and thriving and the batch below them are doing one or two days a week.

“We have been able to build for the season to go ahead and potentially seasons in the future.”

Speaking of young players, one young player could be set for a new position in 2023:

“Gannon is going really well, he has been playing a bit of six in training and that has been going well,” Smith said.

“He is having the ball in his hands a lot which has seen him bring out some really nice footy. We expect a lot and he will step forward again this year. We have got a really good squad with depth in every position.”

“I think he will get game time at 6. It is going to take a squad to compete this season and achieve what we want this season.”
