Rohan Smith has now won two of three games as Leeds coach and today his Rhinos side laid down a real marker at what they can accomplish in 2022 and moving forward under Smith.
They battered Warrington in their own back yard 40-4 with a brilliant attacking performance, something Leeds fans have been waiting for all season.
After the game he explained to Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks what was different in this Leeds side and how proud he was of his players.
“They had a genuine crack at doing everything we’ve been working on,” Smith explained live on Sky Sports, “We dodged a few bullets where we managed to scramble and fight back and make a few opportunities of our own.”
When asked about what he’s enjoyed about taking on the reigns at Headingley, he acknowledged how much he’s enjoyed the process of developing this young side: “I’ve appreciated the process, training has been really enjoyable and the players have received the messages I’ve been giving and having a good crack at implementing it in the game. We saw bits of that, and they were playing together through the hard parts and created a few opportunities.
“The main message is to play together and be a team. It’s not about individuals, it’s how we can play together.”
But when asked about what this Leeds team can accomplish and where they could go this season and beyond he remained coy with a joking answer: “Huddersfield next Friday.”
It’ll be a tough test against the high flying Giants next week for his side but he is already endearing himself to the Leeds fans and more performances like that will do the talking for him.
