Rohan Smith explains Leeds Rhinos team selection but makes no comment on Brad Dwyer omission

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Rohan Smith has named an interesting team for today’s game against Hull FC.

Smith has moved Richie Myler back to fullback with Zak Hardaker replacing the suspended Harry Newman at centre with Liam Sutcliffe also back in the centres as Rhyse Martin returns to the backrow.

He’s also named four forwards on the bench leaving out Brad Dwyer again as he did last week against St Helens.

On the Rhinos’ Twitter page, Smith explained his team selection citing a lack of forwards for the change around at centre: “We’ve lost a few forwards this week so you know we are getting Rhyse back into his comfortable left edge backrow role and Zak’s very excited about playing right centre too.

He also spoke highly of the returning Liam Sutcliffe: “Yeah he’s had a good of prep and coming in fresh. He’s looking to do well.”

Another returnee is young Morgan Gannon whose back in the mix after a head knock and his exams. He’s joined on the bench by fellow returnee Cameron Smith.

It’s safe to say Smith will be happy to have them both back and noted just how pleased he was to have Gannon in the 17 again.

“Good to have Gannon back. He had the concussion and been going through his A-Levels as well so he’s missed a little bit of training but he’s had a good week or two and ready to know.”

Interestingly, Smith made no comment on the continued absence of Brad Dwyer who also missed last week’s game.

He’s been linked with a move away from Headingley for 2023 to the likes of St Helens and Salford.
