Rohan Smith confirms Leeds Rhinos want to keep exciting off-contract duo

A lot has been made of the future of Sam Walters.

The young Leeds Rhinos prop has played a handful of games and impressed when called upon.

He scored a terrific try against St Helens in a famous win for the Rhinos in a game that also saw him wrapped up in controversy as many felt he should have been penalised for a shoulder charge.

However, Walters has been left out for a number of games and Leeds fans were fearful this would propel the off contract forward to leave the club.

Those fears worsened when it was reported by Leeds Live that Walters was prepared to consider offers from rival clubs with there being plenty of interest in the promising prop.

However, Rohan Smith has confirmed that the club wants to keep Walters and fellow youngster Liam Tindall.

He said today: “Sam and Liam are players we would like to keep and we are working hard through our process to keep them and develop them with our group.

“There is a core of English players in our club that are growing and developing and there is more to come and hopefully their time will come.

“Sam has played some games this year and done a good job for us. Tindall has come in and has had an impact and done a really good job and moved his way up the pecking order.

“They are developing every week at a club they love and we hope that they will stay and they will be doing everything they can to stay as well.”
