It is that time of year when coaches are frequently being asked questions about recruitment and retention.

That was pit forward to Leeds Rhinos boss Rohan Smith yesterday as he spoke to the press.

He was asked about the likes of Blake Austin, Aidan Sezer and James Bentley who are off contract at the end of the season and he said on the matter:

“Nothing’s settled. Those conversations will continue to happen and when there’s an update, there’ll be an update.”

Asked further about the situation with Leeds’ halfbacks and if they could sign extended deals or if Leeds will look to the open market, Smith said:

“The recruitment and retention is an ongoing daily conversation and plenty of decisions to be made as we go.”

This came as he dismissed rumours linking Leeds with a move for Wakefield Trinity halfback Mason Lino.

“I’ve not had a conversation with Mason or his management,” Smith said.

“I did say hello to Mason after we played Wakefield, but that’s the extent of it.

“He’s a good player. I’ve known Mason a long time, but there has been zero communication as far as a contract goes to my knowledge.”

Later on Thursday, Lino signed a three year deal with Wakefield Trinity.
