Rochdale sign former Wigan junior

Rochdale Hornets have completed the signing of centre Jack Higginson for the 2020 season.

Higginson joins after leaving Leigh Centurions at the end of the 2019 season. He also spent time at Rochdale in 2019, where he scored one try in three games during his first spell at the club.

The 22-year-old came through the ranks at Wigan Warriors and broke into the first team in 2016. He scored one try in three games.

He has further experience whilst on loan at Swinton Lions and Workington Town.

The Ireland international told the club website: “After originally calling it a day last year, I felt a little bored and had too much time on my hands. After a lot of poking from a few of my mates here, I eventually started training with the boys and to be honest, I haven’t looked back.

“I’ve started enjoying rugby again and feel much more confident with my shoulder which I’ve had a bit of trouble with.

“Being from Rochdale myself, I’m looking forward to playing with some of my best mates again who I played with at Mayfield. There’s a buzz around the group from what I’ve seen, and we have a really good, local group.

“We could do something this year and help us get back to the Championship where we belong.”

Head Coach Matt Calland added:“Jack just fits the bill for what sort of player we’re looking for.

“Young, tough and willing to work hard.”
