Huddersfield head coach Luke Robinson has confirmed that halfback Lee Gaskell will return against Salford this week, whilst also praising two players who have been among the most versatile on his roster.
Gaskell has missed the Giants’ last seven games after suffering a thumb injury in the first game back after lockdown against Leeds.
Thursday will be the first time the 29-year-old has played under interim head coach Robinson, who is looking forward to welcoming the stand-off back into the side.
“He’s been in and around the squad now for a little while,” said Robinson. “He’s not been far off but I’ve been very cautious not to rush him.
“I’d like to give a mention to two players who are going to miss out. Jordan Turner, he’s moved around the squad – he played a bit of centre and then we put him at no.6, and I think he’s been tremendous over the last few weeks.
“He’s really steadied the ship and shown his influence. He’s just a rugby league player with a lot of experience.
“Unfortunately he had a head knock last week and for that reason we’re being a bit precautionary regarding his head, and he’s not going to make it this week.
“The other one is Sam Wood. He played on the wing and was exceptional. He’s a bit of an unsung hero is Woody and he’s done a lot of good things for us.
“He’s been really versatile for me and for a coach he’s a bit of a dream because he’s somebody who can play on the wing, play in the centre and play in the middle a little bit. He’s played in the halves as well over the past few years.
“He’s played really well, put his hand up and done all the right things for the team but he’s another one who’s just going to miss out this week.”
