Robert Hicks will referee his 300th Super League game on Friday (15 July), when he officiates the fixture between Wigan Warriors and Hull FC fixture at the DW Stadium.
Hicks, who is now 40 and a former Saddleworth Rangers junior, refereed his first game at Rangers at the age of 16 and has since gone on to officiate in Challenge Cup Finals, Super League Grand Finals and two World Club Challenges, and in successive World Cups in 2013 and 2017.
In addition to refereeing 299 Super League games to date, and acting as the video official in many more, Hicks has refereed more than 500 first team games across all levels and competitions.
Dave Rotheram, the RFL’s Chief On-Field Officer, says: “Congratulations to Robert on reaching this significant milestone. Everybody who knows him is aware of his passion for the sport, and he has made an outstanding contribution to Super League and Rugby League generally, both as a match official and in his roles with the RFL – now as Director of Operations and Legal.”
Hick’ first Super League refereeing appointment was Leeds Rhinos versus Crusaders at Headingley in June 2010, when a late try from Vince Mellars earned the visitors an historic victory.
