Rugby league legend Rob Burrow’s family are at the ‘Rob Burrow Centre’ for MND, the day after his passing.

The 41-year-old hero’s death was announced yesterday, with the news being met with mourning, but also a celebration of his remarkable life from people from all walks of life.

A true legend of the sport, he won eight Grand Finals and two Harry Sunderland trophies, an award that has now been named after him, and he took his legendary status further as he heroically used his MND diagnosis to spread awareness, along with his friend Kevin Sinfield.

Amongst the things he’s campaigned for is a centre for people with motorneurone disease.

Faced with the news, his family could certainly have been forgiven for not being in the public eye for a while, taking time to come to terms with it.

However, they’ve already been seen out-and-about, in a remarkable display of strength and bravery.

Family at the Rob Burrow Centre

Rob Burrow’s parents, Irene and Geoff, and his sisters, Claire and Joanne, have all been at the ‘Rob Burrow Centre’, which is now under construction.

It will be a treatment centre for people with motorneurone disease.

His mum, Irene, told the BBC: “He was asked. There was no hesitation, he wants it to go ahead today.

“He’ll be watching today and we’ve pulled ourselves together because that’s what Rob would have wanted.

“We’re flying the flag and beating the drum, and keep doing it and raising money, and we will get a cure.

“I’m so proud of him.”

Work was due to start on the centre yesterday, and it aims to give people living with MND the best quality of life.

There’s £1 million left to raise of their goal of £6.8 million, and you can donate to the Centre here.
