RLIF to review 2020 programme

The Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) is to review the 2020 international programme, amid the Global Pandemic.

Sports around the world are currently halted due to the coronavirus. Each country is at a different stage with the disease.

The Rugby League international calendar was meant to be busy in 2020. It starts with the Middle Eastern Africa Championships, which starts on 13 October. A week later, the European Championships are due to start.

Then in November, the Americas Championship is due to take place. This is as well as a potential Ashes series in England.

Chairman Greg Barclay said: “We have been in regular dialogue with the members throughout this period of uncertainty. Clearly, each nation is at a different stage in the whole process and everyone is trying to plan for the best possible outcome.

“The planned 2020 international calendar was set to be the biggest programme ever with the Oceania Cup, European Championships, MEA Championship and Americas Championship.

“The full programme is being reviewed by IRL and its confederations, Asia Pacific Rugby League and Rugby League European Federation.”
