RL Rumours: Trinity target lands in England, Super League side to “freshen up squad” and young Rhino set to leave

Below is a round-up of all the biggest rumours and gossip from the world of rugby league over the past week.

Trinity target lands in England

Wakefield Trinity have made a number of mid-season signings so far but they’re still without a win and that’s led to them calling on the Big Bopper. They’ve been looking at bringing back David Fifita and after confirmation from coach Mark Applegarth and a statement from his brother suggesting he’s set to “save Trinity”, Fifita has finally landed in England. This brings his move that one step closer with confirmation expected soon.

Super League side looking to “freshen squad”

Castleford Tigers haven’t had the season that they or their supporters were expecting and currently sit 11th with just two wins. They’ve also lost their initial head coach and saw one of their longest serving players in Adam Milner leave on loan. They are however looking at the market with the intention of ‘bringing in new faces to freshen the squad up‘, which could mean signings are imminent. Andy Last doubled down on this by saying that they were looking to fill Milner’s position.

One player every SL side is expected to sign

There’s been plenty of rumours of signings and also plenty of confirmed moves. Hull KR are a prime example with the confirmed signing of both AJ Wallace and Peta Hiku, but they’re also reportedly in for Oliver Gildart. We’ve ran through all 12 Super League sides and looked at a key new player who they’re expected to have playing for them in 2024. There’s also the chance of some mid-season moves, with four teams looking more likely than others.

Rhinos given chance to swoop for NRL star

Luke Brooks has been reportedly wanting out of Wests Tigers for some time per The Mole of Wide World of Sports and it was that outlet who reported Leeds’ interest in Brooks initially. Wests have recently been making reported moves for other halves, whilst also offering Brooks a lesser deal, suggesting that the path is clearing for the Rhinos.

Young Rhino set to leave

Leeds Rhinos have produced some brilliant young players with the Golden Generation being the prime example, and they’ll have top hope there’s talent in the current academy as Rohan Smith confirmed that Liam Tindall has accepted an offer elsewhere for 2024 and beyond. That’s in spite of the Rhinos making him an offer, something Smith said another side had bettered.

Morley’s “hope” for Dupree

Tyler Dupree has been subject to a transfer bid from various other clubs it’s been reported, with the young prop having requested a move from Salford. He was a standout performer on Sunday against Hull FC, scoring a try, as Salford ended Hull FC’s run of form. On comms for that game was a former Salford forward, Adrian Morley, and he’s expressed “hope” regarding the young prop’s future.
