RL Rumours: Burgess tipped for Super League, England winger set deadline and World Cup star unhappy

Below is a round-up of all the biggest rumours and gossip from the world of rugby league over the past week.

Deadline day set for Dom Young

England’s breakout World Cup star Dom Young is one of the high profile talents on an expiring NRL contract making the former Huddersfield man the subject of many rumours. Serious About Rugby League now understand that he’s looking to get a deal done before the season starts, so as to remove any potential distractions.

Australian agents eye more Super League talent

Only last week did former Man of Steel, Jackson Hastings, warn of a mass exodus of young English talent from the Super League. Since then the rumours surrounding Lewis Murphy arose, the Trinity star reported by the Daily Telegraph as bound for the Sydney Roosters. Serious About Rugby League now understands that a number of Australian player agents are “keeping an eye” on the English stars of the future.

Super League sides interested in Tom Burgess

The last of the Burgess brothers, Tom, has been reunited with big brother Sam as the 2014 Clive Churchill medal winner takes up a staff role with the Rabbitohs. Whilst that link could keep him it’s being reported by Australian media that Super League sides are circling, could we see a last dance in England for the England star?

Bradford set to recruit former Super League player

Bradford kicked off their Championship campaign with a resounding 24-8 win over Whitehaven, however star Super League signing Jack Walker went down after just five minutes. Head coach Mark Dunning has since spoken out on claims a former Super League talent had been training with the side, going as far to say contract talks could start soon.

World Cup star reportedly unhappy

Ultimately it didn’t work out for Josh Reynolds here in the Super League which prompted an early release from contract and a return to his boyhood club, Canterbury Bulldogs. Just last week it was reported that Reynolds had made Bulldogs squad for 2023, adding fuel to the fire of reports that Lebanon star Khaled Rajab could want out. The addition of 18-year-old Karl Oloapu furthered that tension too meaning Rajab could seek a Super League side for game-time.

Batchelor comments on NRL switch rumours

Joe Batchelor was touted as NRL-bound per reports in the Australian media last month, something that caught the Saints man off-guard as well. He’s now in Australia, although it’s not to sign anywhere but to contest the World Club Challenge. The Examiner Live are now reporting that Batchelor has spoken on the rumours, quashing them and reiterating his intent to pursue more success with St Helens.
