Wellens lays down law on discipline
Paul Wellens got off to the best start as a head coach with victory over Penrith but times haven’t been as smooth back in England, partly due to his sides discipline issues. Morgan Knowles copped a ban once again last week and now Wellens has explained what he’s said to the talented 13, whilst reiterating he’s addressed the full group too.
Rhinos resigned to losing young talent
Leeds Rhinos have plenty of young talent off contract but it seems that another of their crop could be headed to play rugby elsewhere in 2024 with Rohan Smith confirming a player has accepted an offer elsewhere. He’s also expressed that in terms of recruitment the Rhinos are “in the market for” a specific type of players. Smith also provided an update on the absence of one man from his squad to face Saints.
Dupree breaks silence after transfer request
Tyler Dupree made his England debut earlier in the season after flourishing during his time at Salford, however the prop now wants out and has made a transfer request. That was “strongly refused” by the club leaving uncertainty over the situation but Dupree has now spoke out for the first time.
Team News, TV schedule and Referee appointments
The upcoming round of Super League features some great games, but as does the NRL and the Championship which has it’s Summer Bash this weekend. All the TV details for those games can be found here. The first of those games in the northern hemisphere sees Hull KR host Wigan. There’s then a double header at Headingley with Leeds struggling with injury for their St Helens clash. Leigh welcome Warrington, whilst struggling Huddersfield and Castleford face off. Fellow strugglers Wakefield travel to France where Luke Gale could debut. The men in the middle for each of those matches has also been confirmed here.
Huge fixtures set for streaming and TV
The quarter finals of the Challenge Cup are up soon and the games have been allocated among the broadcasters. BBC have picked up the clash between Warrington and Wigan, whilst Viaplay have picked up what could be a feisty clash between Hull KR and Salford. They also confirmed a set of league fixtures as well. The Championship Summer Bash will now also see five of it’s games streamed on the OurLeague app as well.
Wakey re-sign youngster
Jack Croft is back at Belle Vue after a spell in Australia. Trinity have managed to re-sign the youngster until the end of the season with the young centre returning to the place he debuted in 2019.
Tribunal rules on huge Grade F charge
Brett Ferres is a Super League and England legend but he’s now plying his trade in League One with Doncaster. The former Rhino got himself in trouble over the past round of fixtures during which he had an altercation with an official, seeing him land a Grade F charge, but the ruling is now in on the incident.
Championship side’s fan forum reveals all
Keighley Cougars are one of the notable teams in the Championship, be it their impressive kit, their outspoken approach to IMG (which they’ve now clarified) or the fact they entered the league following an invincible season. However at a recent fan forum they were on the back foot denying rumours of failed player payments and explaining the sudden sacking of their much-respected boss Rhys Lovegrove.
Beaumont’s bold predictions
Derek Beaumont is a man for boldness, just look at the incredible yet eye-catching Leigh Leopards rebrand for example. That said he brings an energy and positivity to the sport but he’s now put forward his end-of-season predictions, and his Leopards could be in with a chance of silverware it seems.
Burrow & Sinfield nominated for incredible award
Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield were a brilliant duo on the pitch but in their post-playing days they’ve made an even bigger impact. The awareness and funds raised for MND is nothing short of exceptional, as is their journey in doing so which is why both men have been nominated for awards regarding their inspiring documentaries.
