Gale returns to Super League

Luke Gale shocked almost everyone by moving to Keighley in the off-season but the former Man of Steel’s spell in the Championship hasn’t lasted long. Gale will now head to Wakefield to try and help them with their plight to avoid relegation in one of the biggest mid-season moves in recent memory. He’s spoken since about what he will bring, whilst boss Mark Applegarth has also explained the transfer.

Wane likens debutant to Burrow

Shaun Wane was impressed with many of his debutants that starred in the thrashing of France on Saturday, and one man in particular has earnt praise and been compared to England great Rob Burrow. He also explained the omission of one notable player, citing he has to “fix up a few things”.

There’s been plenty of wonderkids in rugby league over the years and whilst plenty have filled their potential, many have not. One who looks to be excelling and could be destined for an NRL move is Jack Welsby and Jon Wilkin has heaped huge praised on the full-back.

Free agent frenzy begins

Now that’s May 1st there’s set to be a huge swathe of agents negotiating with rival players. That’s because teams can legally speak with rival players who are due off contract at the end of the season and there’s plenty of talent available so we’ve made a full list of players. There’s also been huge interest from Australia as well for Super League talent.

Young British forward Super League bound?

With the market and negotiating period effectively opening today there could be plenty of deals being done in the coming months, many between Super League clubs but some stars can rise from the Championship. That may be the case for a Bradford forward who sees his deal expire at the end of the year but has all the talent to make the jump to Super League.

Rhinos man keen on position switch

Ash Handley starred on the wing for England on Saturday as he picked up a hattrick on his international debut and also set up three as well. Despite that he’s spoken since and expressed what he thinks his position is, and it’s not in that number two shirt that he shone in at the Halliwell Jones.

Pundit picks between Smithies and Knowles

England are very blessed in the loose forward position at the moment with both Morgan Smithies and Morgan Knowles being called up to the most recent squad. There’s also Victor Radley down under and uncapped Cam Smith at Leeds, but Phil Clarke has revealed his preference between Smithies and Knowles. He’s also called on a rule that desperately needs to change.

Social media can be brilliant but it also can be toxic and that’s been seen this weekend with England winger Dom Young the victim of some vile racist tweets. The NRL have since investigated messages online but it’s unclear if they’ll act on this occasion.

NRL winger’s SL switch a step closer

There’s been rumours since before the season started that Sydney Roosters winger Daniel Tupou is headed to Super League. Since then the Roosters have acquired for 2024 the English duo of Dom Young and Lewis Murphy making his exit more likely. He’s now been side lined for an extended period, which could be the final push to mean NRL clubs will ignore him and he could end up Super League bound.

Championship club plan for new stand

Keighley Cougars have bemoaned the IMG proposals in that off-field matters have such a strong influence on Super League status. Instead they campaigned that it should just be on-field performance. Despite this they’ve put forward plans for a new stand that will help them “to ascend to Super League”.

Smith labels English stars “just class”

Tony Smith was in the punditry booth for England’s big win over France and whilst he didn’t watch any Hull FC men, he did watch some players he described as “just class”. He’s also rubbished any question of effort at the MKM and spoke about how his team can kick on.

Crazy World Record smashed at Saints’ stadium

There’s surely millions of World Records for people to have a go at and quite often they’re attempted for a good cause and this weekend was no different. A group of Saints’ fans raised a huge £15,000 for MND by doing laps of the Totally Wicked Stadium in a peculiar type of transport. Why talented youngster returned?

Jacques O’Neill was confirmed as having returned by Castleford last week after his departure from the sport a year prior. During that time he pursued reality TV fame but a teammate has provided an explanation as to why O’Neill could have made the decision to return.
