RL Commercial chairman Frank Slevin is to step down from his position at the end of his three-year term, it has been announced. Slevin has been in place as the first chair of RL Commercial since 2022, but he has informed the board that he will not seek reappointment.
A statement released by the governing body cites family reasons as the reason for his decision while it also confirms that he will remain in position until the end of his term in July. The search for Slevin’s replacement has now started, with an update to be issued in due course.
Slevin joined RL Commercial after spending several years in similar roles with retail brands House of Fraser and Hamley’s, and British Cycling, which like RL Commercial, is based in Manchester.
He has overseen what has been a transitional period for the sport as the sport strives to improve under the guidance of IMG.
Speaking after making his decision, Slevin said: “It has been a great honour and a privilege to have been the inaugural Chair of RL Commercial.
“The warmth of the Rugby League community has been profound and I have enjoyed every day of my time involved with this wonderful game. The sport has an exciting future ahead of it and I look forward to following that future with keen interest from the sidelines.”
Simon Johnson, chairman of RFL, said: “Frank has thrown his heart and soul into the game over the last three years, helping RL Commercial find its feet after its inception in 2022.
“His leadership, integrity and commitment has helped lay the foundations for the growth of our sport in the future. We wish him and his family all the best and he will always be a welcome guest at our events.”
