Richie Mathers has his say on David Fusitu’a shot on Hull FC fullback

Fusitu'a of Leeds Rhinos intercepts Luke Gale of Hull FC high ball

Leeds Rhinos overcame Hull FC in Tom Briscoe’s testimonial yesterday but one point in the game stood out.

Hull FC’s Jake Connor had already been forced down the tunnel after breaking his hand, but his replacement Davy Litten didn’t fare much better.

Litten was smashed by Leeds’ new signing David Fusitu’a as the former received the ball out the back, but a number of supporters believed the Rhinos winger should have been penalised.

However, former Leeds and Super League star Richie Mathers has now had his say on the incident.

Mathers put out on Twitter: “Tackle was fair, under ball, legal & a bloody great shot. Stick your age argument where sun doesn’t shine, it was a great defensive read & he’d have smoked any player in SL coming out of the back of that type of play by how well he read the defensive situation. Now bore off please.”

18 years of age, Litten was forced off with a neck injury after he sustained whiplash from the shot, but Mathers and most others hailed the tackle.
