Richardson set for shock Leigh switch

St Helens scrum-half Danny Richardson looks likely to join Championship outfit Leigh Centurions on a short-term loan deal.

The 22-year-old has not featured for Justin Holbrook’s side this season with Theo Fages and Jonny Lomax the preferred half-back partnership.

With Richardson eager to play and Saints reluctant to let him go to a league rival, it seems he will be loaned to the nearby Centurions on an initial one-month loan.

The Saints academy graduate broke onto the scene in 2018, ending the season as the competition’s top points scorer and part of the Super League Dream Team.

But for injury, Richardson would have represented England Knights and could well have been included in Wayne Bennett’s England squad after Luke Gale dropped out.

However, Richardson must now work hard to win back his place in the Saints team and a short stint at Leigh is seen as beneficial for him to regain match fitness and form.
