Richard Agar responds to Jon Wilkin’s criticism of Leeds Rhinos halfback Aidan Sezer

If you watched Sky Sports when Leeds Rhinos took on Wigan Warriors away at the DW Stadium last Friday night, pundit Jon Wilkin frustrated a number of Rhinos fans with his comments about halfback Aidan Sezer.

Sezer had been criticised by the former St Helens and Toronto Wolfpack forward for his performance in the heavy loss, but head coach Richard Agar refuted the comments and issued a rallying call to the rest of his squad.

“I didn’t listen to Jon Wilkin’s comments for starters,” Agar said.

“He’s paid for his opinions and he’s generally got pretty good opinions but there’s room for improvement across the board.

“I thought we were too deep and played before the line, and our timing was off.

“One thing we talked about last week we lacked line speed in our defence – we need to hold some blokes accountable for that.”

The Leeds boss went further, defending Sezer especially after his round one performance.

“I haven’t heard his (Wilkin) comments and I’m not really in the business of responding to TV pundits, even though I’ve got one on my own staff (Jamie Jones-Buchanan) who is sat with me now.

“We know where we let ourselves down and we know how to fix it up.

“I want a much-improved display, not just from Aidan but our whole team – Aidan playing with 12 men in round one was magnificent for us.”
