It perhaps wasn’t a shock this morning that Leeds Rhinos head coach Richard Agar would be stepping down at Headingley.
After more than three seasons at the West Yorkshire club, Agar felt it was the right time to leave and that he had perhaps taken Leeds as far as he could.
However, when asked whether or not he would return as a head coach someday, the former Hull FC and Wakefield Trinity boss was coy about the future.
“Never say never, I love working in rugby league and I absolutely love the sport,” Agar said.
“I still think with the experience and knowledge I’ve got, I’d still love to find the right role in the game – what that looks like at the moment in time I don’t know.
Agar was keen to stress that at present, it’s all about family time rather than concentrating on another role within or outside the game.
“All I want to do now is go home and see the family – I just want a bit of time out.”
“I think most coaches on a day like today our first thought is to clear our head and have a bit of space to recharge the batteries.
“I came to the club to do a certain role and to step out of the Leeds head coaching role, I think it’s very unlikely I would start another head coaching role, but never say never.”
