When Richard Agar departed Leeds Rhinos back in late March 2022, the West Yorkshire club were in a bit of a pickle.
With just one win under his belt, Agar departed claiming he had ‘taken them as far as he could’, with Jamie Jones-Buchanan stepping in as interim head coach.
Since then, Agar has kept a low profile, going on holiday and recharging his batteries after a stressful three years in charge at Headingley.
Despite that, he has still been keeping tabs on clubs.
“I managed to get away for a bit and took the family over to America and had a holiday,” Agar said on BBC Radio Leeds – he was a guest speaker at Belle Vue for Wakefield Trinity’s win over Hull FC.
“I went to Australia to watch a bit of rugby league, so I’ve been filling my time.
“There are a lot of things you can’t do when you’re a Super League coach, so I’ve been doing bits and bobs in the background but not so much within the game.
“I’ve been watching anywhere between ten and 20 games a week depending on what the schedules look like.
“I’m not missing not being at rugby league games, so I’m certainly getting a fill of that.”
Agar insisted that he is not in any rush to a head coaching role, though he will be part of the Samoa coaching staff at this year’s World Cup.
“We’ll see what happens, but at this moment in time I’m not in any particular rush,” Agar continued.”
“After stepping out of a job like that, the last thing I feel like doing at this moment in time is going to be a head coach again.
“You never say never because there can be twists and turns and you can start to feel a different way, but at this moment in time it’s not something that’s high on my agenda.
