Richard Agar was disappointed by his side’s performance as they went down 34-12 to Wigan.
The Rhinos started positively taking a 6-0 lead with Blake Austin scoring a lovely try on debut. But, when a break from young Liam Tindall was halted by Jai Field giving Wigan the ball, things unravelled.
Jack Walker knocked on in his own 20 and from the scrum Wigan scored a strange try when Jake Bibby dropped the ball backwards onto his foot flicking the ball above his head allowing Jai Field to pick up and level the scores.
From there, Wigan bossed the game with Jai Field picking up a brilliant hat-trick looking unplayable at times. However, Leeds boss Agar was more focused on his side’s performance in the defeat rather than what Field did to his side.
“I thought the first 20 minutes it looked like we had a real contest on our hands,” he told Jenna Brookes of Sky Sports, “I was quite happy with the way we were going. After Liam Tindall’s break we end up in touch on the first tackle, we then make an error coming out of yardage and then we had no look in the game after that.
“We sensed a little bit at half time that we weren’t getting much response and we dually obliged in the first 20 minutes of the second half. I thought defensively we were so far off the mark, lacking in line speed and contact and hit.
“I thought we had some really poor individual performances as well and some errors if you want to play any team in this competition you’re not going to get away with.
“It was a poor showing from us tonight.”
He also confirmed that Ash Handley had sustained a hip injury whilst Cameron Smith has a back injury. Big blows for Leeds who next week host last year’s league leaders Catalans however they will have Brad Dwyer back and could also welcome back David Fusitu’a and Harry Newman.
