Rhyse Martin reveals what referee Liam Moore told him after missing five kicks

Leeds Rhinos ran out 32-22 winners over Catalans Dragons today at Headingley in a brilliant advertisement for the game.

It was arguably one of the best games of the season so far and it was a perfect game for free-to-air television as the sport tries to capture more eyeballs and attention.

Whilst Leeds crossed over seven times they only managed two conversions, whereas Catalans converted three of their four.

As such the game was very tight for long periods in the second half and the usually impressive goal kicker Rhyse Martin was releived of his duties with Aidan Sezer taking over instead.

Sezer set a record when he went 41 kicks in a row last year however at a blustery Headingley today he missed his first five.

Harry Newman crossed over under the sticks in the last few minutes to secure the win leaving a kick from bang in front of the posts, which Sezer clearly offered up to Martin as a confidence booster.

Thankfully he converted it but in his post match interview he’s revealed what referee Liam Moore said to him as he was teeing the shot up.

Asked about his kicking he said: “We’ll forget about today, I’ve just apologised to Rohan. There’s some days when it’s not happening.

“It’s my job and I pride myself on it and today probably wasn’t good enough but I’ll keep going.”

In regard to that final kick under the sticks he explained what Moore said.

“The ref Liam whispered to me ‘don’t miss this one’ and I thought he was going to jinx me. It made me even more nervous after that.”

Thankfully for the Rhinos and Martin he slotted the kick and celebrated in front of the home fans.

Surely it was Martin that had the 41 successive kicks, not Sezer ?
