Leeds Rhinos have made a number of signings for the 2023 season but their last is the only one to receive a squad number inside their first 13.

That is centre Nene MacDonald who they brought in from Leigh Leopards on a two year deal.

A big signing for the Rhinos as he takes on the famous number four shirt but they couldn’t have done it without second-row Rhyse Martin.

He revealed how he “planted the seed” in the Rugby League World Cup as they played for Papua New Guinea together.

After hearing “a few rumours” Martin “got into his ear” to convince him to join the Rhinos as he revealed on the Rhinos’ YouTube channel:

“Yeah mate I planted the seed early as soon as we got into camp. There were a few rumours leading into camp that he was coming, I just got into his ear and twisted his arm a bit. Where else would you want to be?”

Martin enjoyed the World Cup overall including reuniting with the likes of MacDonald and others:

“It’s great, I love it. I get to see some guys I haven’t seen for a while like Nene.

“It went really quick, I was in camp for six weeks and a blink of an eye and it was over.”
