RFL’s try of the season revealed as sensational try against St Helens beaten

Leigh Leopards are headed for Super League in 2023 after a stunning season in the Championship in 2022.

It is perhaps the best ever Championship season as they lost one league game all season and even won the Championship’s equivalent of the treble.

they won the 1895 Cup at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium by defeating Featherstone Rovers at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium.

They also beat the Rovers, the only Championship side to defeat them last year, to the League Leaders’ Shield before they went on to defeat Batley Bulldogs in the Championship Grand Final to secure their place in Super League prior to their name change from Leigh Centurions to Leigh Leopards.

Their impressive season has been underlined by the fact they picked up an individual honour as Edwin Ipape picks up the RFL’s Try of the Season.

He beat out Man of Steel Brodie Croft’s try for Salford Red Devils.

Croft’s try against St Helens was part of one of the most impressive results of the season as Salford inflicted St Helens’ worst defeat since 2016.

The try started with Ken Sio as he collected a grubber on his own try line found Dan Sarginson who weaved through defenders and then released Tim Lafai who tore through before finding Croft in support to score.

However, the individual try Edwin Ipape scored against York from a short kick off saw him tear through defenders before an acrobatic finish in the corner to seal the try.

With the votes of fans, Ipape defeated Croft’s try in a fan vote to secure the RFL’s try of 2022.
