No further action will be taken against Leigh Leopards’ Lachlan Lam, following last month’s allegations of unacceptable language.
Lam was placed on report by the referee during the play-off clash between Leigh and Wakefield Trinity after an accusation of unacceptable language was made in the second half of the contest. As such, the complaint was looked into last week by the RFL’s Match Review Panel, but there was no clear evidence of any wrongdoing.
As such, Wakefield and Leigh were invited to gather and submit any supporting evidence by RFL Compliance this week. Such a decision freed Lam up to play in Friday’s semi-final against Wigan Warriors.
However, it has now been confirmed that nothing was submitted to Compliance before the deadline of October 1 and that means the matter will not be taken further.
A statement issued by the RFL read: “No further action will be taken in regard to the allegation of unacceptable language made by a Wakefield Trinity player against a Leigh Leopards player in the Betfred Super League eliminator on September 26.
“The on-field complaint was included in the referee’s post-match report, and therefore considered by the RFL Match Review Panel meeting the following Monday (September 29). They were unable to take the matter further because of the lack of supporting evidence, therefore referred it to RFL Compliance for further investigation, given the serious nature of the allegation.
“However, there has been no response to the RFL request for further information necessary to take the matter further – the deadline for which passed on Wednesday (October 1).”
Lam’s season came to an end on Friday night as the Leopards were edged out by Wigan, but the half-back’s new two-year deal was announced on Saturday evening, with the scrum-half sticking around with the Leopards for a while longer yet.
