RFL chief executive Ralph Rimmer talks honestly about increasing punishments in rugby league

There have been many debates in recent weeks concerning the increasing punishments in rugby league.
Yet more Super League players were banned this week following the Disciplinary Match Review Panel, but RFL chief executive Ralph Rimmer believes the sport is heading in the right direction in order to protect players.
“I think there’s a settling down period, we know how difficult it is but we’ve got to protect players,” Rimmer said on Premier Sports.
“There is a fine line to be drawn and there’s a settling in period, but we’re meeting with clubs on Wednesday
“It’s a collaborative process – we all want to see a fantastic spectacle but we’ve got to protect players.”
Rimmer also confirmed that the RFL are consistently in talks with clubs and officials about which ways are best going forward.
“We talk to clubs, coaches and players about the best way through this – we talk to the off field staff as well.
“There are teething issues but we will come to the right place eventually.”
Luke Gale, James Bentley and Dylan Napa are just some stars that have been given long-term bans following incidents in Super League games already this season.
