Revealed: Why Wigan Warriors star avoided ban after “reckless tackle”

Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and Hull FC stars have all landed in trouble with the Match Review Panel after the latest Super League action.

There were six players banned with King Vuniyayawa banned twice including a high tackle during Salford Red Devils’ defeat to Wigan Warriors.

This saw him yellow carded. In the same game, there were questions over Bevan French after a tip tackle.

However, he has escaped a ban for this but has instead been fined. This is likely because of his previous record.

The Sky Sports pundits had an interesting say on the tackle. Phil Clarke suggested that these kind of tackles need to be avoided because worse ones could lead to serious injury.

It was described as “reckless” by the official.

Fortunately French will be available against Leeds Rhinos on Saturday.

Following the latest round of Betfred Super League & Betfred League One fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:

Bevan French (Wigan Warriors) – Grade B Dangerous Throw – £250 Fine
