Tonight was expected to be former Man of Steel Luke Gale’s big debut against his former club as he looks to save Wakefield Trinity from relegation but instead he was surprisingly absent for the second week in a row.
The former Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers and Hull FC halfback – who Wakefield battle tonight – has explained that it is mostly down to injury.
“I’ve got a tweak in my groin and was no good for last week and if we’d have pushed it I could have made it back for this week but it’d be disrespectful to Morgan Smith who I thought was outstanding last week, hoepofully he’ll do the same tonight.
“It’s been a real short period, the training has been of a real high quality it’s intense and we took that into Warrington. The sending off changed it and the game got away from us.”
So Gale’s debut has been pushed back once again due to a groin injury but Mark Applegarth is confident.
He said on Sly Sports:
“We’ve been making moves in the right direction but it’s fair to say we’ve not been firing.
“We need to post some wins on the board and it helps that we’re getting some bodies back, the likes of Kelepi Tanginoa who can punch holes is one of those.
“We’ve been working on strike and making sure were more clinical when we do get opportunities.
“Togetherness in a team sport is massive so when you haven’t won a game its easy for players to splinter off but we’ve been working hard to keep the group together, and we’re all working hard to make sure we remedy it.”
