Revealed: Who Joe Shorrocks will play for as Leigh take on Wigan

This week Leigh Leopards and Wigan Warriors meet in an exciting derby with both teams coming into the game on the back of impressive wins.

However, one of Leigh’s star performers in their first three wins of the season has no left the club.

Joe Shorrocks was brought to the club on a short term loan from Wigan and underlined what he can do for the Leopards scoring a vital try against St Helens and coming up with a match winning play against Hull FC on Saturday forcing the error that lead to the decisive penalty.

However, ahead of the meeting between Leigh and Wigan, it was confirmed in the press conference prior to the game that Shorrocks was back with Wigan perhaps because Oliver Holmes is back from injury.

Matt Peet said on Leigh’s YouTube channel: “He’s back at Wigan, I guess we’ll find out if he’s in the 21 or not.”

Peet also said of the game:

“I think there’s been games in the past where Leigh were punching above their weight, but I don’t think that’s the case at the moment.

“I think the players and the staff that Derek and Adrian have put together, I think we know we’ll have our hands full, not just in the rivalry and the atmosphere but by quality of building a team as well.”

Opposite number Adrian Lam added: “I remember playing for Wigan and coming to play against Leigh and the talk between not only the players, but the supporters. The love hate relationship in the borough is building nicely.

“With the game on Sky on Thursday night I think it’s great for rugby league to see that rivalry. I know Wigan are forever going to have that rivalry with Saints but I think this is as tough and as close, so I’m looking forward to it.

“I still live in Wigan so I’ve got to be careful of what I say and what I do but obviously I played at Wigan

“I’ll always be indebted to the club for that opportunity but my time here at Leigh has been unbelievable for my development as a coach, and what we’re building here has been a real important time of my life.

“When you look at the tickets sold I think we could potentially break our home ground record and what a great club to do it against.”
