Revealed who has been training at left centre for Leeds Rhinos as Ash Handley heaps praise on them

Many Leeds Rhinos fans are expecting the club to announce the signing of a centre in the weeks to come.

It is widely believed that a deal for Leigh Leopards star Nene MacDonald has already been sealed and it is just a matter of time until it is announced.

That said, it was originally suggested that new signing and former Castleford Tigers man Derrell Olpherts could play their after Liam Sutcliffe and Zak Hardaker left the club.

However, training pictures have revealed that Olpherts will not wear the number four shirt but rather the number 16 jersey in 2023.

That said, Olpherts has been training at centre according to the Rhinos YouTube channel playing alongside winger Ash Handley in training.

On this Handley opened up about how impressed he has been by the former Salford Red Devils man.

He said: “Yeah, he’s [Olpherts] pretty decent, I think he is predominately a left winger so I think wherever we play, Rohan Smith wants us on the same side.

“Wherever we play, I think it’s going to be a bit different but it’s a new challenge and I’m up for it.”

So, the Rhinos are happy to run with at centre it seems though the fact the number four shirt isn’t his that the club will bring in a centre before the start of the new season.

But don’t be surprised to see him play centre at some stage in 2023.
