Revealed: When one of Super League’s best players is set to return

Hull KR are now doing it tough in their spine, which is perhaps the strongest area of their team, with key injuries to Lachlan Coote and Jordan Abdull.

Today, Willie Peters gave an update on Coote:

“He’s actually having a scan this afternoon so after that we’ll know a little bit more, but he definitely won’t play.

“I’m sure that’ll be about a two or three week injury but that’s us looking at it on the eye, getting a scan will give us a better idea.”

He did confirm that there was a tear: “Yeah there’s definitely a strain or a tear in there, we just need to determine how significant and that will determine how long it is.”

Meanwhile, he also gave a time scale for Abdull’s return:

“He’ll still be a good five to six weeks. It was a decent tear there so we need to take our time with him.

“He’s feeling good but that’s what happens when you tear your quad, after a week the soreness goes away and you think you’re flying but you’re not.

“He’s got a long way to go, another five to six weeks.

“We didn’t initially think it was that bad because the way he did it, he did it passing and it didn’t look too bad and he sort of said afterwards that it didn’t feel too bad but that he felt a pull.

“When you hear that then usually it’s not too bad but obviously he’s had some issues there in the past and like always the scan tells you what you need to know.

“Initially we knew it would be a decent injury but after he got the scan they said basically that it’s a six week injury.

“He had a major injury last year with his squad but had a really strong pre-season, in our game you never know when your next injury is coming. It’s going to happen.”

These injuries create problems to solve especially at fullback.

Peters said:

“We had some plans, we’ve got Phoenix, Ethan and then obviously Mikey played their last week. There’s no doubt that when we lost Will Dagger that the depth at full-back would be impacted a little but we saw what Mikey can do and then we’ve got Ethan Ryan who can be a good full-back, plus Phoenix.

“We’ve had both Ethan and Mikey train there today, it will be out of those two that will play but we’ll make the final decision later in the week. Both players have had reps there.”
