Today, the Betfred Super League heads for the Magic Weekend in Newcastle.
It comes after an amazing weekend last week which recorded some amazing viewing figures.
However, it still wasn’t the best of the season.
That still belongs to the season opener between Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos.
Meanwhile Sky Sports’ live coverage of Friday night’s fixture between Leeds Rhinos and St Helens attracted their second biggest peak audience of the season.
And that peak was reached during the breathless 10 minutes of golden point extra time, during which Lewis Dodd snatched a dramatic 13-12 win for the champions – after the teams had been level after 80 minutes.
That was the second match to go to extra time on consecutive nights and it had been a similar story 24 hours earlier at Hull KR, whose home game against Wigan Warriors had also been shown live on Sky Sports – with viewing figures again peaking during the additional period as Wigan snatched victory with a sensational Liam Farrell try.
Away from the Betfred Super League, Viaplay attracted their biggest peak audience figure of the season for the Betfred Championship for the York Knights versus Featherstone Rovers fixture which completed the action on the first day of the Summer Bash.
The continued progress of the Betfred Women’s Super League was also reflected with live coverage of two fixtures on two different platforms – Sky Sports showed the St Helens victory at Leeds which preceded the men’s fixture on Friday evening, and Our League streamed York Valkyrie’s win against Warrington Wolves which kicked off day two of the Summer Bash on Sunday.
