Revealed: The Super League club who spend the least

Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC, Hull KR, Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils are battling for places in the play-offs.

Fifth and sixth spots appear to be up for grabs and all these clubs are gunning for them and staying in the race for Old Trafford,

This week there are some key games in this race including Salford’s trip to Huddersfield Giants.

Salford continually defy the odds to be in the mix for the play-off places.

In 2019 they even made the Grand Final, in 2020 it was the Challenge Cup Final and in 2022 they made the semi-finals of Super League.

But according to Paul Rowley the club should struggle given they spend the least.

He said: “It’s just the same, obviously like I said before, you spend the least you should be at the bottom, we’re not at the bottom, so it’s as simple as that. Anything above, we’ve done alright.

“So what we want to achieve and set our sights as high as we can. We’ve had a good season up to now and the whole thing, the whole league is like two wins off being at the top or two off being at the bottom end so there’s not a lot between top and bottom.

“You could arguably say everybody’s having a good year in that respect. It’s just a tough competition and so it’s a race to the finish line, there’s six games left. So this week’s very important.”

Asked if he wants a Derek Beaumont like owner, he said:

“Yeah, I mean it’s a funny question isn’t it because first and foremost I respect people that work hard and do the job that they do for our club presently.

“You know if you’re asking a coach would you like more money and more resource then you’d be a fool to say no.

“So first and foremost, I’d like a better training pitch, I’d like a gym that’s adequate, I’d like a team room that’s private. And then we’ll get some players.

“So yeah, somebody coming in with loads of money would be a great addition, a great help and would help us to fulfil our goals and ambitions and the clubs and supporters goals and ambitions as well.

“So yeah, I mean I’ll wear spots, stripes, whatever you want me to do. If someone’s going to come in and throw a load of cash at us then we’ll do that.

“You’ve got to applaud anybody who puts their hard-earned cash into a club to chase a dream and I certainly do that. So, yeah, if that person’s there, feel free, but until that day, then I’d rather applaud the people that work tremendously hard to keep us going and to just try and drive this club forward in the way that we are doing.”
