Reports: Wigan Warriors star still “set to sign” for Wests Tigers

John Bateman celebrates at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

For about a month now, it has been reported that Wigan Warriors star John Bateman is headed to the Wests Tigers in 2023.

In fact, the rumour started during the Betfred Super League season only for the transfer fee to put off the Tigers till ex-Hull KR boss Tim Sheens, new to the hotseat at Wests Tigers, got involved, he has made Bateman a must have.

He reportedly held a meeting with Bateman in England during the Rugby League World Cup whilst working with Italy.

After that it was reported that the Tigers were now happy to pay $250,000 the fee for the Wigan star.

It was then suggested he had signed a three-year deal and preparing to make the move overseas.

However, for a while now things have gone cold on the signing front perhaps due to the fact Bateman is enjoying a deserved break after the World Cup alongside family.

That said, ZeroTackle are still reporting that Bateman is “set to sign” for the Tigers as Sheens continue to recruit in the middle.

They have reportedly been chasing Parramatta Eels loose-forward Nathan Brown having already signed David Klemmer.

According to the Australian publication, other than Bateman and Brown they could afford one more signing.
