Reports: Salford Red Devils star signing set to leave the club

Salford Red Devils

Reports down under have stated that Salford Red Devils new recruit from the NRL David Nofoaluma could already be set to exit the club.

After being raided of stars such as Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers by Leeds Rhinos, Salford Red Devils also found themselves without their first-choice wingers with Ken Sio granted a release to return home down under and Joe Burgess released on undisclosed grounds.

It was reported that Burgess had been subject to a “month-long” investigation by the Red Devils with Salford’s release statement ominously explaining: “As a club, we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and discipline and have an expectation that those who represent the club reflect these values.

“Whilst the decision has not been taken lightly, after consideration it has been decided that the player’s conduct was not consistent with such expectations.”

Salford’s loss was certainly Hull KR’s gain, however, it left the Red Devils lacking on the wing until they made the late signing of exiled Wests Tigers man David Nofoaluma.

The signing of David Nofoaluma was confirmed as the Super League season was kicking off and despite having to recover from an early injury, it seems that the fit-again winger is out of the picture after having just made two appearances.

David Nofoaluma to head home?

As referenced, David Nofoaluma hasn’t had the desired impact Salford colours with his two appearances seeing him at fault for a number of tries.

The Round Five loss to Wigan Warriors was a brutal one for Salford given they had led for much of the game but a late misjudged goal-line drop-out by Man of the Match Marc Sneyd saw the ex-Wests winger fail to recollect the ball.

From there, Wigan earned territory and would go on to score two in the final few minutes to flip a 12-10 deficit to a 12-22 win, breaking Salford’s hearts.

The other instance that Salford fans have had the opportunity to see David Nofoaluma was against Castleford Tigers when the winger was terrorised by Innes Senior who scored four as Cas put the Red Devils to the sword.

Since then, the winger has yet to take the field and now, per The Mole, he could be out of the door at the club with the Australian journalist taking to social media to report the news.

He posted: “Word has it David Nofoaluma is leaving Salford after TWO games. Is anyone surprised???”

Nofoaluma left Wests Tigers under a cloud with the winger having inevitable talent but an apparent inability to piece everything together. With Salford having been a club to revitalise the career of NRL exiles there was excitement about the signing but it’s ultimately been misplaced.

At the time of his arrival, Paul Rowley said of David Nofoaluma: ““David’s CV is fantastic, and again, the influence and mutual respect that Krissy (Inu) has with players in world rugby has proven fruitful.

“Our quality back line has now got the competition needed in every position.

“Myself, the staff, and players are looking forward to seeing an exceptional player and character join us on our Super League journey.”
