Reports: Leigh Leopards star has played the final game of his career

Leigh Leopards have a stunning squad going into the 2023 Super League season.

They have brought in star players like Zak Hardaker, formerly of Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos, Ricky Leutele of the Huddersfield Giants and Gareth O’Brien from the Castleford Tigers.

The Leopards have also brought in five players from Warrington Wolves as the gear up for a big season back in Super League.

Adrian Lam’s squad was already strong after securing promotion and these players have augmented it. However, they have lost some big names.

Sam Stone has joined Salford Red Devils, Caleb Aekins has moved to Featherstone Rovers and last week Nene MacDonald’s move to Leeds Rhinos was confirmed.

Following the news of MacDonald’s exit, it seemed Leigh’s squad was settled now that they were under the quota for overseas players. But then came news from Rugby League Live that former NRL star who had joined Leigh mid way through 2022 prior to signing a two year deal Blake Ferguson was leaving the club due to home sickness.

It was then reported by Zerotackle over the weekend that he was set for an NRL return with up to seven clubs potentially interested in the winger.

However, the Daily Telegraph are now claiming that the winger has played his last game in the sport suggesting he doesn’t have the motivation to play again after leaving Leigh.

That said, they do say a return to the NRL cannot be completely ruled out.

The Leopards are yet to confirm his departure.
