Reports: Club make their move for Justin Holbrook

We have seen many different coaches under pressure this season such as Leeds Rhinos boss Rohan Smith, for much of the year Wakefield Trinity coach Mark Applegarth and recently Daryl Powell at Warrington Wolves and Ian Watson at Huddersfield Giants.

These two clubs were both linked with former St Helens coach Justin Holbrook after he left Gold Coast Titans alongside Leeds.

Rohan Smith has done is talking through his side’s performances since then but Huddersfield and Warrington both shut down those statements with the Giants even saying they were “dismayed and totally furious” with the reported rumours.

Holbrook has to go down as one of the best coaches in Super League’s recent history.

He took over a St Helens team with massive untapped potential mid-way through 2017 seemingly on course to miss out on the play-offs for the first time ever.

However, he had a quick impact and took them to fourth place becoming the first team to beat Castleford Tigers at the Jungle.

He nearly repeated the feat as well in the Super League semi-final until golden point heart break denied him and the Saints.

In 2018 and 2019 the Saints arguably should have won the treble but did win the Grand Final in 2019 in his last game before taking over at Gold Coast Titans.

According to the Mole of Wide World of Sports Holbrook won’t be without a job for very long however.

That is because the Mole has reported that two Sydney based clubs have started negotiations with him over taking over as assistant coach.

Now, the Daily Telegraph is reported that an unnamed NRL club have made their move for Holbrook.
