Reports: Catalans Dragons wanting to sign two centres but have abandon pursuit of Super League star linked with Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos

There’s been a lot of change at Catalans Dragons recently.

Last week they confirmed the departure of nine players with Warrington bound duo Sam Kasiano and Gil Dudson and NRL headed Joe Chan being joined by young Frenchmen Mathieu Cozza, Corentin Le Cam and Romain Franco as well as Samisoni Langi, Benjamin Jullien and Wigan linked Dean Whare.

Meanwhile, they’re also likely to bring in Romain Navarrete according to reports from France with the same sources now reporting that the Dragons are looking to sign two centres.

This would make sense following the departure of Samisoni Langi and Dean Whare but means youngster Matthieu Laguerre and reliable Arthur Romano will remain behind in the pecking order as will the versatile Tyrone May.

These come from L’Independent and Treize Mondial with Catalans president Bernard Guasch saying: “Next season’s three-quarters line will be significantly revised. We are looking for a pair of new players behind. Two centres that have juice and break the line.”

The obvious avenue for Catalans to take is bringing in one of Super League’s star players in 2022 in the shape of Ricky Leutele who has been outstanding for Huddersfield this year.

The Giants have replaced him with NRL duo Kevin Naiqama and Esan Marsters after a new deal couldn’t be agreed with Leutele with links to Wigan, Leeds and Leigh leaving the centre with plenty of options.

The Dragons have also been linked with the centre but according to Treize Mondial, Catalans have abandoned their pursuit leaving the door open for the other three to secure his services.

However, with Wigan likely to sign Dean Whare having already secured Toby King for 2023, it’s seeming likely he could go to Leigh with Nene MacDonald potentially joining Leeds.

They really want McDonald to go to Leeds! No foundation to their story. Getting boring now
