Liam Knight insists he would be willing to make the move to Super League should he fail to find a club in the NRL. Knight was released by Canterbury Bulldogs at the end of the NRL season and remains a free agent having struggled to find a new deal.
According to The Mole, the forward has been subject to interest from the NRL, but if a contract fails to materialise, it seems he would find himself pursuing other options. Reports have suggested that Super League clubs are interested in the 29-year-old, who has 83 NRL appearances to his name, but those clubs remain unnamed.
However, Knight may well find himself looking towards Super League in the coming months and admits that while a move across the world wouldn’t be his ideal choice, it might be an option.
“I have thought about that, it’s definitely an option,” Knight said while speaking to 9News. “If that’s the option I have to take, I’ll go over there because I’m not done, I’ve got plenty to offer I feel.
“If that’s my option I can do that but I love Australia and I’ve got a lot here.”
The former Manly Sea Eagles, Canberra Raiders and South Sydney Rabbitohs man added: “There’s not many spots around the NRL so I’m trying to knock on every door, calling coaches myself and my management has been so good for me around the clock. I’ve just got to stay ready,” he said.
“I’ve had a few tough times which have made me grow up a bit more and look internally. I’ve had to fix a few things about myself that have been dragging me behind and held me back a little bit.
“That’s been a really important journey in my last two years, I’ve put a lot of work into myself. When I was a bit younger I probably had that loose tag which couldn’t be further from the truth these days. I’ve been off the drink two years, I just need an opportunity.”
