Released Leeds Rhinos prop signs with Super League rivals

Leeds Rhinos' Justin Sangare tackles Castleford Tigers' Sam Wood in the Super League at Wheldon Road.

Released Leeds Rhinos prop Justin Sangare has signed a new deal with a rival Super League club after his Headingley exit.

Sangare was one of two French international forwards to leave the Headingley club at the end of the 2024 campaign with his and Mickael Goudemand’s contracts being cut short.

The former Toulouse man has not had to wait too long to land himself a new deal though as it has been announced the Salford Red Devils have recruited the powerhouse prop, making him their fight signing for the 2025 campaign.

Sangare joins fellow props Joe Bullock and Chris Hill in heading through the door at the Salford Community Stadium whilst hooker Sam Davis and centre Esan Marsters are also new recruits.

The signing of the former Leeds Rhinos man was confirmed by Salford Red Devils who released a statement announcing the 26-year-old’s arrival.

It read: “Salford Red Devils are delighted to reveal the signing of France international, Justin Sangaré on a two-year deal.

“The 6’4” prop becomes our fifth signing of the transfer window, joining Esan Marsters, Sam Davis, Chris Hill and Joe Bullock through the doors of the Salford Community Stadium after leaving Leeds Rhinos just under a month ago.”

Sangare would join Leeds Rhinos ahead of the 2023 Super League campaign after impressing with Toulouse Olympique during their maiden Super League venture.

Whilst at Leeds Rhinos, he would play 42 times but saw his deal cut short last month with the Headingley club bringing in Keenan Palasia and Cooper Jenkins to bolster their forward pack.

His exit from Headingley is certainly a massive boost for Salford Red Devils who have clearly made a concerted effort to strengthen their pack with his, Hill’s and Bullock’s arrivals.

On signing for the Red Devils, Sangaré said: “I am very happy to join Salford for the next two years.

“There is a lot of potential with this group. My ambition is to win trophies, and I know that is something the Club is striving to achieve, so it feels like the perfect move for me.

“I am excited to meet the supporters and give everything on the pitch to earn their respect.”

Head Coach, Paul Rowley has also stated: “I am pleased to welcome Justin to Salford and on behalf of all the group we are all looking forward to working alongside him with a shared objective of being our absolute best, at training and in games.”
