Championship side Toulouse Olympique have moved to secure the signing of French half-back Thomas Lacans on a deal until the end of the 2026 season. Lacans joins the club following his release by Featherstone Rovers last week, with the club parting ways with the 24-year-old on compassionate grounds.
Lacans spent just over two years at Featherstone as a player, joining the club after a brief period with Newcastle Thunder. He made 28 appearances for the Flat Cappers, with 16 tries coming along the way, including three this season with tries coming against Ince Rose Bridge and London Broncos.
However, he has now returned to France, to join up with Toulouse, who will be looking to compete with Featherstone at the top end of the Championship and he could be set to make a debut for the club against Bradford Bulls this weekend at the Stade Ernest Wallon.
“I am very happy to join TO, and even more so to be able to defend the colours of a French club in an overseas championship,” Lacans, who is a France international, told the Toulouse official website. “I can’t wait to meet the guys and start working so that we can go as far as possible.”
Sylvain Houles said of his latest recruit: “We are delighted with the signing of Thomas because he is a player who will take us a lot on the offensive side.
“He has the full range of a good half, he attacks the line well, he puts a lot of uncertainty in the game and he is able to adapt to any type of defence. He has very good support and is lively and fast so he has everything to set the Ernest Wallon stands alight.”
Toulouse have made a mixed start to the Championship season, with a loss to Widnes Vikings coming before the French side edged out York Knights last time out.
