Jack Walker has moved to clear up why he left Hull KR at the end of the 2023 Super League campaign. Walker is currently on the lookout for a new club after being released by Hull FC at the start of pre-season, despite having a year left to run on his deal.
The decision came just a year after the full-back joined the club, with Walker making the switch to the MKM Stadium after catching the eye at Craven Park. The 25-year-old joined the Robins on a short-term deal in June 2023 and scored five tries in 10 appearances for the club.
However, the 2024 additions of Niall Evalds and Peta Hiku, who started last season as a full-back, ensured Walker’s game time would be limited and he was subsequently released without the offer of a new deal.
Responding on TikTok to a comment from a Rovers fan stating Walker should have stayed at Craven Park, he said: “So I’ve seen this comment a couple of times and Hull KR never offered me a deal.
“I’m pretty sure they had their team sorted before I even joined the club which wasn’t a problem. What Hull KR did for me was enable me to play Super League and put my face in the shop window for other clubs to come in and potentially get a deal for the following year for myself at another club.
“I played well and managed to get a deal at FC so it wasn’t like I was choosing one over the other, Hull KR didn’t offer me a deal and Hull FC offered me a deal.”
In a video posted earlier this week Walker gave an update on his hunt for a new club as the start of the Super League season approaches. The number one admitted he isn’t close to a new deal and finds himself in state of limbo as he waits for an opening to emerge at a club.
