Referee was “influenced” by vocal crowd claims Kevin Brown

Salford Red Devils came up short against Hull KR today in the Challenge Cup.

It ends their hopes of Wembley and sees Hull KR progress into the final four of the competition for the second consecutive season.

Before the game, Paul Rowley made some interesting comments about hoping the officials wouldn’t be swayed by an always vocal Craven Park crowd.

During the game, Kevin Brown said that the crowd was having an impact.

“The crowd is definitely having an impact,” he said on Viaplay.

They are booing and cheering everything and every decision and that has got to have an impact, even just subconsciously, on the official.”

Meanwhile, Mark Wilson echoed this saying:

“There have been a few decisions. Paul Rowley did mention that they had home advantage.”

Later, Brown would reiterate his point about the crowd.

He said: “They definitely influenced the referees on those 50/50 decisions.”

However, whether the referee Ben Thaler was influenced by the crowd or not, Salford weren’t good enough today.

They were well beaten by Hull KR who led 18-0 at the break after Salford were lukewarm at best in the first 40 and went on to lose 28-10 as their road to Wembley was ended.
