Record attendance confirmed for huge Super League clash

Derek Beaumont said earlier this he is expecting a record crowd at Leigh Sports Village as they host Wigan Warriors in the Battle of the Borough.

Speaking on the club’s YouTube channel, he said:

“I’m pretty sure we will do, I’ve had more texts today for a ticket in the North Stand than about a week of everything combined on my phone so I think a lot of people were trying change the habits here.

“I was speaking to Radz earlier and they’ve already got heavy sales for the game against St Helens after this game, because of the demand over history of that game.

“With ourselves people used to come in on the day and just buy a ticket, there’s never any real pressure of anything being sold out so for the North Stand to sell out the Saturday before a week of the game is significant.

“Wigan have almost sold their end out, we’re well into the West and East Stand so I’m fairly confident, well I’m pretty certain we’ll beat 9,012 but I’d love to see it with every seat taken.”

That record crowd has now been confirmed by the Leigh owner who said on Twitter:

“There we have it as ⁦the Lottery Winners⁩ sound check ahead of the Battle of the Borough the 9013th ticket goes and we will have our biggest ever ⁦Super League⁩ attendance tonight! Massive thanks to both sets of fans.”
