Super League have confirmed when Leigh Leopards and Wigan Warriors will play their rearranged fixture from Round Two that was postponed on account of the World Club Challenge.
Wigan Warriors hosted Penrith Panthers to contest for and win a fifth World Club Challenge on February 24th meaning that the scheduled Super League fixture between Matt Peet’s side and their neighbours Leigh had to be postponed.
The fixture was kicked down the road for the next available date, however, with an international against France being arranged and Wigan going all the way in the Challenge Cup, it’s meant that there has yet to be a weekend available for the game to be played on.
In 2023 when St Helens missed their Round One fixture against Huddersfield Giants on account of contesting the World Club Challenge, they were able to play the fixture on the Sunday of Challenge Cup Final weekend.
With that being impossible this year given Wigan’s progression all the way to Wembley, it has meant that Super League and the two clubs have had to come to a solution with the fixture now announced to be played in August.

It has been confirmed that the fixture between Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards will be played between Super League Rounds 20 and 21, placing the date of the game as Tuesday, August 11th.
A midweek fixture is a less-than-ideal solution for both sides but a case of needs must in order for the season to be completed in time for the playoffs.
The news was confirmed by Super League who released a statement confirming the exclusive televised games for Sky Sports.
It read: “Sky Sports have made their selections for exclusive coverage in Rounds 20 and 21 of the Betfred Super League in August.
“Fixtures announced today between August 1-11 will also include a local derby between the 2024 and 2023 Betfred Challenge Cup winners, Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards – which was postponed from its original date in February because of Wigan’s involvement in the World Club Challenge, and will now be played at The Brick Community Stadium on Tuesday August 6.
“Leigh and Wigan will both play their Round 20 fixtures on Thursday August 1 to maximise their recovery and preparation time for that match – Leigh at Castleford Tigers, and Wigan at home to Huddersfield Giants, in another match that has been selected for exclusive coverage by Sky Sports.”
