Rare reason why Super League star NOT ALLOWED to play this week

Recently Castleford Tigers confirmed the signing of Riley Dean on loan from Warrington Wolves but this week he is not allowed to debut.

This is because of the rare instance in rugby league where a player is not allowed to play against his parent club.

Common place in football, not so in rugby league as seen by Toby King scoring against Warrington last week for Wigan Warriors.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds, Andy Last expressed his disappointment:

“I can understand their reasons, they’ll know all about Riley’s qualities and feel if he comes into the team for us it could cause them some problems.

“Very smart rugby league player is Riley, I’ve been really impressed with his rugby IQ, he’s got a real nice set of skills. His short pass and long pass is very, very good. He’s got a good kicking game, both short and long.

“He’ll add some organisation and a little bit more control in that pivot position. It allows us to explore and get in. Jack Broadbent probably to his more favoured position, which is the centre spot.

“So, Riley will certainly come into consideration for next week’s game against St Helens.

“Credit to him, he’s not given a great deal away with what we’ve tried to ask him about. I’ve tried to ask him in all different ways what White Warrington will be doing, but fair play to the kid as a professional.

“He’s not given too much away and I can not totally understand that. I understand obviously Warrington’s reasons and the way that Riley’s gone about this week has been excellent. It will be good for us.”
