Ranking the five best forwards currently in Super League

In rugby league we can often get swept up in the length of the field tries from outside backs and the sensational assists from the halfbacks.

But the forwards are just as brilliant so we are ranking the five best forwards currently in Super League.

5. Luke Yates – Huddersfield Giants
Huddersfield Giants have one of the best packs in Super League and it was tough leaving Chris McQueen and Chris Hill out. However, in some ways the dynamic, powerful and hard working Luke Yates is a mix of the best of both

4. Liam Farrell – Wigan Warriors
Liam Farrell would be up for this list if we considered the best ever forwards and not just those currently in Super League. He scores plenty of tries, is a great defender and gets through the hard stuff too.

3. Mikolaj Oledzki – Leeds Rhinos
A member of the 2022 Super League Dream, Oledzki has also played for England. He is explosive but what makes him the ideal modern forward is the fact she also has an engine that can keep him on the field for long stints.

2. Morgan Knowles – St Helens
Super League historically has top 13s. Andy Farrell, Paul Sculthorpe, Kevin Sinfield and Sean O’Loughlin. Now Morgan Knowles is ready to be the next and has been in the Super League Dream Team from 2018 onwards.

1. Alex Walmsley – St Helens
One of the greatest forwards ever, he is at times unstoppable and is the bedrock St Helens have built their success on for so long. His quality is underlined by the fact he has helped develop the likes of Matty Lees – who was unlucky not to make this list – so that they could win the Grand Final without Walmsley.
